The Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath argued that the Iftar event conducted by Vijay didn’t respect the sentiments of Muslims who had turned up for the event during the Ramadan month.

Actor-politician Vijay recently hosted an Iftar event at Royapettah YMCA grounds in Chennai. However, the Iftar has courted controversy as the Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath has filed a complaint against Vijay for ‘insulting Muslims’ at the event.

Explaining why they filed a complaint, Syed Ghouse from the organisation said, “Muslims were insulted in the event because many of them who attended the occasion were drunkards, and hooligans. Having such people attend the pious event is an insult to Muslims who religiously follow the rules of Ramadan. It is a shame that Vijay hasn’t even tendered an apology about the inconveniences that occurred at the event.”

The Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath also argued that such discrepancies in crowd control were present during the launch of Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam as well. “People are not being respected as human beings, and are treated as cattle, and their emotions are not respected. Plus, they have non-local bouncers who are not respecting the people who turned up for the event. So, we have registered a police complaint to ensure such incidents don’t happen in events revolving around Vijay. Most importantly, we want to register the fact that we are not doing this for publicity,” said Ghouse.

Vijay entered active politics in 2024, and has been part of activities aimed at establishing his party’s credentials among Tamil Nadu people.

On the acting front, Vijay is working in H Vinoth’s Jananayagan, which is billed to be his last film before he hangs his acting boots and completely concentrates on his political career. The film, which is backed by KVN Productions, features Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Mamitha Baiju in pivotal roles.
